Want to win IPL or end century’s drought, what Virat Kohli needs: Saba Karim

23 November, 2019. It was the date on which Virat Kohli scored a Test century during India’s opening day / night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. As surprising as it may have been, no one saw what was to happen in 400 days of the Indian captain’s arrival without a century.

Yes, Kohli has gone a long way without actually scoring a century in competitive cricket. After going 2020 without a century, Kohli has not achieved the three-point mark despite playing important cricket against Australia and, more recently, against England.

But in the new season of IPL, Kshitij and Kohli expressed their desire to open the batting for their team Royal Challengers Bangalore, saying now is the best time there can be. Kohli has five centuries in the IPL, but all return to 2016. And while getting three figures, somewhere in his mind, former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim says that this will not be Kohli’s priority.IPL Kohli, who has been captaining RCB since 2011, is yet to win the IPL trophy for the IPL and if Karim is to be believed, RCB getting his first IPL title would mean more than scoring a century for Kohli.

If you ask Virat Kohli what he wants from this IPL, whether he wants to score a century or want to champion RCB, then I think Virat Kohli would definitely say that his dream is to become the champion of RCB and They have an important contribution to it. I don’t think if he scores a century or not, it will make a difference on Virat Kohli’s career or not. Yes, it will make a difference when Virat Kohli wins the elusive IPL trophy, Karim said during a discussion.

Having said that, Karim feels that Kohli may find batting a bit more challenging on spin-friendly surfaces. Kohli was recently dismissed for off-spinners off Moin Ali and Adil Rashid during the long tour of England. But at the same time, the former India keeper claims that Kohli will be well equipped to decide to open the batting this year.

“It will definitely be challenging (playing on spin-friendly tracks in Chennai),” Karim said, but the good thing is that Virat has decided to bat. This is a big score for him.

I think they have prepared with this in mind and that is why they want to do so.
